Cultivating fortitude with a smile

Hi!

Nice e-meeting you!

I am Vasty...

I am a Biomedical Scientist turned also into certified Coach with a passion of serving others and see them strive in life.

I entered the world of science because as a child I had this dream of helping others and curing them from diseases. However, though I love science, I never saw myself locked up in the laboratory solely doing experiments. I was hungry for a change - I wanted to be able to see how my research work is contributing to the scientific enterprise and impacting public health.

That is how my journey to career transitioning got started leading me to building connections and networking to position myself for the non-bench scientific career I aspired to.

Through conversations with peers and mentors, I also rediscover my love for mentoring, guiding, listening, advising and coaching individuals in their hardships confided with me. So, then I had to reevaluate my career goals. As I reflected on my career the main thing that I was drawn to was service. So, in considering the next chapter of my career journey, that was a major key factor: finding roles that allow me to still apply my scientific background while providing service that build and help individuals and organizations.

VOA's Tree: There is a season for everything. Some circumstances will rip off your beauty and strength, others will bring them out.

Career Transition

My career transitioning was not an easy journey. The path was accompanied by distress, tension and anxiety but one of my favorite mottos is “our circumstances do not define us but our response to them does”. The notion of this fact was and has been a driving force in my waiting period for a life change.

I recall that during this time in my life, I also decided to track the life cycle of a tree that I would always see on my way to my workplace garage - I made that tree personal and named it “VOA's Tree”. The lesson gain from this tracking experiment was that no matter the season I find myself in, as long as I stay rooted, firm and focused, eventually I will overcome the challenges surrounding me.

Mindful Leadership

During my time as biomedical scientist at one of the renowned agencies in the biomedical and healthcare system, I served on different and several committees for fellows and trainees covering several leadership roles. This experience further expanded my view and understanding of dealing with different personalities in a hierarchical system. With that, I bring into my coaching approach the experience of fostering a collaborative environment that brings out the best of a team, acknowledging the contribution, the unique skills and singularity each individual brings to the table.

Accumulating this enriched background has set the basis necessary to be able to assist you in your interpersonal relationship and leadership skill building.
